We recommend that all patients read the following medical cannabis advice.
Patients are advised NOT to drive if they are impaired following use of their medication. They should exercise caution particularly when starting new treatment, changing or adding on a form of treatment or when there is a dose adjustment.
Medical cannabis is a controlled medication, and it should be kept in locked storage, inaccessible to others, especially children.
Medical cannabis can cause side effects such as decreased appetite, diarrhoea, feeling sick, feeing ‘high’, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. If you have troubling side effects, please contact the clinic.
There are travel restrictions to certain countries, CB1 can provide a letter for travel if required. Patients need to check with their airlines, transit, and destination countries for further guidance.
Patients are advised to add CBD oil to daily prescription, this can be prescribed by CB1, or you can choose to obtain from high street source. Patients are advised to have CBD in the house, in case of side effects from unopposed THC. The advice is to take 30-60mg CBD in event of side effects such as increased heart rate, increased anxiety/agitation.
Patients cannot use cannabis from other sources with as this will interfere with Cannabis based products for medicinal use (CBPMs) assessment of efficacy and your prescription may be withdrawn. Medication not to be shared as is illegal under law, beyond risking someone else’s health they can be prosecuted for intent to supply.
Patients are advised to try to take 1-2 days per week off treatment, and every 3-6 months take a two-week treatment break. Restart treatment at a lower dose as tolerance would have reduced.
